Or are you going to show how many flat earth epople there are as proof its right cause there is so many of them! Comment by christabelle on T17:51:31-05:00Īs someone with some serious memory issues thanks to ADHD? Add-on managers coming into existence was a legitimate game-changer back in the day - don't ask me how long I'd forget to update before the original curse client made it easy to check 'em at a glance.and it's just so frustrating that now it's like.support satan, or just try to remember to update manually again, since half of what I use is Curse-only.

You have a horrible understanding of how statistics work, how people who hate something will be FAR more vocal then those who dont. I think it is you underestimating how many people know about Overwolf's shady practices. Have you read the comments on this news article up to here? On the official forums discussing this move? No, no, I don't think I am grossly underestimating anything. I think you are grossely underestimating how many people are using the curse client. I can't imagine what they're thinking doing this. Reading through these comments it looks like a lot of players are just going to manually update or go without until 10.0. Not a smart move by Overwolf to make addons harder to update, especially with Blizzard announcing an incoming UI revamp that's apparently going to bring a lot of addon functionality into the base UI.

For those, downloading and installing the addon manually is a very simple process that can be done with minimal effort and typically only needs to be done whenever there's a new patch or major update. Not every addon can be found there though, as some remain exclusive to Curse until their authors decide to host them elsewhere.

WowUp already released a guide preparing its users for the turnover, using alternative mod repositories on Wago.io, WowInterface, Github, and the WowUpHub. Of course, if you're still not interested in using CurseForge or anything associated with Overwolf, other options still remain. The settings include closing the app completely on exit and some currently greyed out privacy options. If downloaded and installed correctly, it should run independently and without the Overwolf application. Updating is as simple as clicking a button, with a separate section for searching the CurseForge repository to download other addons. Once actually installed, the app is very straightforward and works much like you'd expect - updating addons without Overwolf's overlay or other frills. Ignore the "recommendation" and download the standalone version if you only want to manage addons without all the extra Overwolf functionality.
#Curseforge download client windows
Currently in Alpha, this client only supports Windows and World of Warcraft addons. In order to get the standalone version, you'll want to scroll down to CurseForge download options and select CurseForge Standalone (Alpha) from the drop down menu instead - or use this direct download link. Getting to the standalone app is a little misleading however, as the link in the article directs to the main download page for the Overwolf app. We’ve taken this into consideration and developed a standalone version of the CurseForge app on Windows, based on Electron, which you can download here. Many of the community members voiced their preference for a leaner approach to managing mods.
